When May 21, 2011 passes by, I pray that those zealous to spread the “May 21 Day of Judgment” message will be zealous to repent and preach Christ. I admire them for their zeal in spreading their message. One man spent over $140,000 of his savings to put up billboards all over the United States warning that May 21 is the day of judgment. Will he spend (if he has any left) that same amount on Bibles for China or supporting missions in India?
I recently heard Dr. Michael Brown discussing how he met some of the Harold Camping followers in New York City while there for David Wilkerson’s memorial service at Times Square Church. Brown noted that seemed rational to him despite being wrong. He said he asked the man, “Just do this for me, preach Christ. After all is said and done, exalt Christ and His saving work.” Good words of wisdom.
I pray that my zeal is to preach Christ. I love to pray. I love to read the Bible. But I also love to preach Christ. I love to share my faith with the lost. I love to tell people that Jesus Christ is their only hope for righteousness (Romans 3:19-20). I love to show them God’s Law (1 Timothy 1:8-11) and that they are sinners before a holy God. I do speak of judgment to come as Paul did in Acts 24:25 and Acts 17:30-31. I believe that Jesus is the only hope we have for salvation (John 14:6). I preach Christ and Him crucified (1 Corinthians 1:23).
I pray that above being zealous for a Harold Camping or a John Piper or a James Arminius, the people of God would be zealous to make Christ known and declare that He saves. If God’s grace can reach down and save me (1 Timothy 1:15) then I know He can save whoever calls upon His name (Romans 10:13). My passion is to make Christ great and glorified.
